Arusha National Park

Travelers can visit Arusha National Park mostly recommended because of its proximity to the pick point in Arusha where traveler can maximize their time in the bush.

Arusha National Park covers Mount Meru, a prominent volcano with an elevation of 4566 m, in the Arusha Region of north eastern Tanzania. The park is small but varied with spectacular landscapes in three distinct areas. In the west, the Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River; the peak of Mount Meru lies on its rim.

At just around 137km square, Arusha National Park has great wildlife densities, and it is home to the world’s largest population of giraffe. Cape buffalo, elephants, hippos, zebra are found here in abundance, and the occasional lion and leopard can also be sighted on a game drive.

Tarangire National Park

This is a national park in Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The Tarangire River is the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season.

It is known as a wonderful birding destination and also features large numbers of game, particularly during the dry season, when the Tarangire River is the only source of water in the area. The landscape is of particular interest too, due to the high number of scenic baobab trees.

Travelers can also opt to visit and do game-drive in Tarangire, the park is full of African largest Elephants found in groups and in the afternoon predominantly available below baobab trees. These animal can also be found in the park; Lion, Cheetah, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Spotted hyena and Leopard and much more.

Lake Manyara National Park

The park is located in Arusha and Manyara Regions, composed of Lake Manyara and the Great Rift Valley as the main physical features. It covers an area of 325 km² including about 230 km² lake surface.  The park is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants.

The park is also home to hippo, giraffe, impala and zebra, and its lake a magnet for birdlife, including sizeable flocks of pink flamingos. Mahogany and sausage trees are alive with blue and vervet monkeys; elephants feed on fallen fruit, and bushbuck, baboons and leopard make their homes in the forest.

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region in Africa, spanning northern Tanzania. The protected area within the region includes approximately 30,000 km² of land, including the Serengeti National Park and several game reserves.

It is best known for its huge herds of plains animals (especially gnu [wildebeests], gazelles, and zebras), and it is the only place in Africa where vast land-animal migrations still take place. The park, an international tourist attraction, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1981.

A day trip from Arusha is not recommended because of a travel duration from Arusha to Serengeti. But if still insists you can plan a trip to Southern or central  Serengeti which took around 5-7 hrs travel. A fly  to Seronera airstrip may save you time and money since you will be evading transit fees in Ngorongoro

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Conservation Area is in northern Tanzania. It’s home to the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater and “big 5” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). Huge herds of wildebeests and zebras traverse its plains during their annual migration. Livestock belonging to the semi-nomadic Maasai tribe graze alongside wild animals. Hominin fossils found in the Olduvai Gorge date back millions of years.
